What are LED TV?

Just when you thought you had researched all the possible options for a new HDTV another rears its head. It promises to be completely different, but one thing that is different is the price tag. I am a bit ‘more. Yes, I’m talking about LED TVs.

What exactly are LED televisions and how do they differ between the existing options? To begin, the name LED TV is really a misnomer. Is not a completely new technology that uses LEDs to display the image. Actually refers to the type of backlight that is used. Typical LCD HDTV are not very good at displaying complete darkness so that the photos might not be clear as it might. With LED backlight contrast there is much more because they can turn the LED off completely which makes the blackest blacks and gives an incredibly sharp image compared to LCD technology standards.

There are two different types of TV LED backlight. Edge lit and local dimming. Edge TV sets are turned on the LEDs around the edge of the TV, which allows a manufacturer to make the TV, even flatter. Local dimming LED contains localized behind the TV screen. In my opinion, local dimming gives a much better picture and contrast much higher than the edge-lit screens. As with everything you have to consider the cost function for each report. Edge lit TVs are less expensive than local blackout, but you may notice a slight difference in contrast.

In the future, will be heard of OLED technology, which stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode. There is no lack of new technologies, but as my teacher said, “Technology is like a river passing through, you just have to decide when to grab the bucket and fill it.”
